Otsego Public Schools is proud to announce Sean Ernstes as the Class of 2026 Salutatorian, an honor that Sean achieved through his commitment to rigorous courses, leadership, and involvement throughout his time at Otsego High School. Sean graduates with a final grade point average of 4.374 and has distinguished himself as both a dedicated student and active member of our school community.

Sean plans to attend Georgia Institute of Technology, where he will pursue a degree in computer engineering. Inspired by his years in robotics and a passion for programming, Sean hopes to continue exploring the hardware and electrical side of technology. 

During his time at OHS, Sean has been heavily involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. He has participated in robotics throughout all four years of high school, though his experience with the program actually began back in third grade. Sean shared that his love for robotics grew through programming and watching the team continue to develop over the years.

In addition to robotics, Sean has been active in National Honor Society, Student Council, tennis, and Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Sean built multiple nine-square game sets that are now used during Student Council events and activities.

Academically, Sean embraced the challenge of rigorous coursework, taking numerous Advanced Placement (AP) classes throughout high school. Among his favorites were AP U.S. History, AP Government, AP Calculus, and AP Literature.

Sean credited social studies teacher Mr. Belton as one of his favorite educators, sharing that he appreciated his “no nonsense” teaching style and engaging classroom environment. He also reflected positively on AP Calculus for pushing him academically, while AP Literature helped strengthen his appreciation for reading and discussion.

When asked what motivated him academically, Sean explained that he initially set a goal to take AP classes that genuinely interested him, but over time became motivated to challenge himself even further by taking as many advanced courses as possible.

His advice to younger students hoping to achieve similar academic success is to learn strong time management skills and stay fully engaged in their coursework, especially in online classes.

Sean also credited robotics mentor Mr. Miller as someone who had a major impact on his educational journey. “He got me into robotics in third grade and has been with me ever since,” Sean shared.

Outside of academics, Sean said many people may not realize just how much time he spends balancing activities, academics, and commitments outside of school.

As he looks ahead to college, Sean says he is most excited about learning something new and continuing to challenge himself academically. While he looks forward to his future at Georgia Tech, he says he will miss the people at Otsego High School most, especially with college taking him far from home.
