It was the best summer yet for our summer meal program and summer fun events!

The summer of 2025 mobile Meet Up and Eat Ups and summer fun events are ones to remember. Otsego Public Schools, in partnership with Together Otsego Prospers (TOP), hosted six weeks of events every Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon as well as served breakfast and lunch daily. “This year was definitely the busiest year for our mobile Meet Up and Eat Up meals. We averaged 2400 meals a week,” says Otsego’s Food Service Coordinator, Julie Guthrie, who also organizes many of the summer fun events.

Tuesday night events consisted of a touch-a-truck night, movie night, rock painting, and water night. Wednesdays consisted of a Home Depot build project, Bulldog Carnival, Alan Kazam magic show, the Holland Outdoor Discovery Center, and a Back-to-School Bash featuring Mr. Juggling Mans.

“The families were so amazing as usual,” Guthrie says. “On Tuesdays nights, we would see new families every week and they were so thankful for the opportunity to connect with other families and also have a free evening to do something different with their kids. We have a pretty regular crew of families who would attend at Northside Park this year and I saw many family bonds form.”

These events came together with the help of countless sponsors and volunteers, “I just really want to thank the team who made this all happen from behind the scenes: Otsego DPW, Fire, Police, The MRS Work Program Summer Crew, Danica Sallee in promotions, OPS Custodial Staff.”

It takes months of work to organize these events, but Guthrie says it’s worth it and is excited to start planning for next year. “These families feel like an extension of my family. I can not put a finger on the most rewarding part, but I love when the kids come running up to thank us. They are thankful for every little thing.”
