Students create warm connections with kids in the hospital through this special after-school club.

For the 2nd year, Washington Street Elementary students can join a special club to benefit Bronson’s Children’s Hospital. The goal is to provide comfort for kids who are spending time in the hospital and hoping a little gift and note makes them feel better.

Students in this club make tie fleece blankets. Each blanket has two designs - one for each side. The kids cut the edges for strips, then tie them together to create the blanket. It’s detailed work, but one they take a lot of pride in doing.

Along with tying blankets, students color Get Well cards with notes in them for the kids in the hospital. There are three sessions, each three weeks long. They meet just one day a week after school for an hour to work on the blankets and cards. After the third session ends, they hope to donate 30 blankets in December!
