Otsego Public Schools is gearing up for it’s 5th Purple Community Week
to support cancer research at Van Andel Institute!
Fundraising is underway for Otsego's 5th Purple Community Event to support Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids. This year, Otsego will shed the blue and gold and go purple for one week to raise awareness and money for cancer research, celebrate those who battled cancer and come together as a community for a common cause. There are so many special events and special ways to get involved in this effort, and with Purple Community, 100% of proceeds go directly into the research labs which focus on cancer research, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and others.
Over the last four events at Otsego, our community has raised almost $72,000. The goal this year is to reach $100,000 in total giving. “We Are Purple” is this year's theme and we want to turn the town purple! Purple is the color VAI connects with survival and this is a cause that can connect us all.
You don’t have to purchase anything to be a part of this effort. Also new this year is a way to make a straight donation to Otsego’s Purple Community Event. You can find the link at our Purple Community Event Webpage.
A purple event comes with a purple t-shirt! This year, it’s a baseball style t-shirt with a new logo for this year’s event. T-shirts are just $10 for YS-AXL, 2XL are $13. Sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets and more are also on sale for $1 - $3. Online orders are now closed, but the shirts will be available at the events.
During Purple Community Week, the Otsego Varsity soccer, volleyball, football, tennis and cheer teams will wear special purple jerseys and shirts that will honor a loved one impacted by cancer. Players and community members have sponsored those jerseys and choose the name that goes on the backs of them.
