Otsego High School is vital to a Merry Christmas for more than 100 families in Otsego. OHS holds a food drive to support the Otsego Christmas Basket Project which helps local families in need for the holidays. In addition, OHS’ National Honor Society leads the charge of a toy drive. Instead of collecting toys, though, they collect money and then shop. They have a list of kids and ages, so they can shop and look for gifts to make their wish come true. The goal each year is about $2,500, which has been topped in years past and this year is no different.
NHS was collecting donations throughout December in 5th hour classrooms, but then held the annual teacher auction - where students can “buy” a teacher and dress them however they’d like on the last day of school before break. This has become a fun way to support the cause and the teachers are great sports! This year’s auction raised $1301 by itself. The total raised this year was $2800. Meijer also donated $400 and gave them 10% off toys.
The gifts were displayed under the tree at OHS so students could see the results of their donations. The toy drive benefited just over 100 kids this year.
