She started dribbling a ball at about age four and there’s no stopping her yet. Senior Mattison (Matti) Rayman is ready to head to the UP and continue her basketball career in college at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, “I’m very excited and proud of where I have come as an athlete and how I have overcome setbacks. Being a college athlete has been a goal i have been working toward and I am happy to make that official,” she says.
Rayman has been all conference all three years, named honorable mention to the Kalamazoo Gazette Dream Team all three years and was All-State honorable mention her sophomore and junior years from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM). While there are sure to be highlights her senior year, the Plainwell game from last year is one her most memorable moments from high school so far, “We were in a close game and I felt it was one of my best performances and my highest scoring game this far with 24 points. The game was very high energy and it was a fun win,” she says. In addition to basketball, Rayman plays soccer; she also golfed this past fall and participated in volleyball her freshman and sophomore year.
Matti plans to study biology with a pre-med concentration at LSSU. She wants to do something research based for a career or possibly pathology. She’s glad she’ll get to continue playing basketball while pursuing her career, “I am excited to compete at a different level of competition and continue to improve.”
