It wasn’t until the start of her senior cross country season that Brenna Stratton decided she wanted to run in college, “I never thought it was an option for me since I wasn’t ever the top runner on the team,” she says. Her perspective changed with one statistic from Coach Long. He shared that each one had the potential to run in college if they ran under 21 minutes for a 5K. “My best time was a 20:10 so I found Cornerstone and committed to continue my running career.”
She made it official this May to run cross country and track, “It’s super exciting,” she says and credits her team for her decision, “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the support of all my coaches and teammates.”
For cross country, Brenna was All-Conference, All-County (2x), Academic All-State and a state qualifier. She also received the Bush award for most spirit on the team, was a co-captain and earned her varsity letter all four years. She was a 4x800 state qualifier in indoor track and All-Conference and All-Region for two years in outdoor track.
Her best memories of high school cross country are the team activities, camps and everyone hanging out after practice, “That’s where we gained a lot of our friendships within the team,” she adds. She’s hoping that will continue in college as well as continued improvement in the sport, “I’m looking forward to gaining relationship with all the girls on the team and training to be even faster.”
Brenna plans to study Biology with a minor in Biblical Studies, “I love science and want a career in a STEM field.”
