Alotobots Get A Lot Done at FIRST Competition

St. Joseph was the site of great competition last Friday and Saturday as dozens of robotics teams came together for the FIRST Robotics district competition. For the fourth year, that contest included the Alotobots, the Otsego High School FIRST Robotics team.

“I am really proud of the kids and their effort,” says Robotics Lead Mentor Michael Miller, “It was a very competitive district competition. There were a lot of good teams there that were four to five times the size of our team.”

Every team has the same amount of time to build a robot and each much work to complete the same tasks set forth at competition; but how each team’s robot is built, designed and programmed is up to them. At the competitions, three schools are placed on one team to form an alliance, and go head to head with another 3-team alliance.

In the qualification matches, the Alotobots went 7-5 and landed in 10th place. They were picked by the 6th alliance to go into the semi-finals, “We pushed it to three matches against a tough alliance, but lost,” Miller explains.

The team persevered through a lot in those two days and showed they’re ready for the competition, “We had a number of different issues during the two days that we had to deal with but they found a way to be successful,” Miller says.

The team heads to Gull Lake this week Friday and Saturday, “I’m looking forwar d to seeing what we can do,” he adds.
