A third grade class is wrapping up 2017 with a lot more kindness in their heart thanks to a kindness calendar. When Washington Street Elementary counselor Rita Mitchell sent out a kindness calendar for December to teachers, 3rd grade teacher Michelle Holmes decided this would be a great activity to do with her class. “We have a conversation about kindness every day,” Holmes explains.
Each day of the month contains a kindness challenge. Some of them, the class talks about and carries out, like giving others compliments, or helping out in different ways. Others, that would require money, are good for conversations to talk about the different ways you can be kind and help others. “We talk about how being kind doesn’t have to cost money,” Holmes says. They talk about how personal actions go a long way in helping others and spreading kindness. The students enjoyed making this a part of their day.
