Students in early elementary love story time! It's a highlight of the day with great story lines, fun pictures and a time to escape into an adventure. Teachers now have another option when it comes to story time, a video from senior, Alex Goodwin. She is providing early elementary teachers with a video of her reading a book two times a month.
"I decided to do read-alouds because I saw other people do them during the quarantine and thought it would be fun to do as well," she says. "I thought it might help teachers out to have a resource for kids to hear someone read out loud to them during their virtual days."
She's reading a combination of her childhood favorites and some newer books that others have recommended or she's found through research. She's good with kids and like books and reading so to take this on as a hobby made sense. "I like reading aloud, so this was a chance to do that."
She's certainly impacting teachers and younger students, but she's hoping her impact could expand to her peers, "I hope that it will inspire young kids to love reading and help them improve reading skills, and also encourage older students to give back to their elementary schools in some way, even if it's creating new ways to help out."
