Having the opportunity to continue playing the sport she loves is not lost on senior Kayla Merrill and she’s thrilled to be joining the team at Muskegon Community College, “I feel truly blessed to have this opportunity. I have worked hard and have overcome challenges during my career. And knowing that there are other girls that may not get the chance to play in college makes me want to make sure I’ll never take this sport for granted,” she says.
Kayla’s love for softball started at a young age with T-ball. She’s grown into a leader for Otsego softball. A captain for JV and varsity, she’s also received nods for her talents as an area Athlete of the Week and voted 2nd team All-Conference. Her skills are now taking her to the next level, “I am very excited to see the competition and putting in the hard work. I am looking forward to making new friends and getting the chance to better myself as a teammate and a player.”
Her team in high school has meant a lot to her, “We built a family and they made me feel valued,” she says, “My most memorable moment in my high school is when we went to the YMCA and my team cheered me on when I the rope ladder; they knew it was something I was afraid of and cheered me on the whole time.”
Merrill was also on the volleyball team her freshman and sophomore year and joined the bowling team for her junior and senior year. She plans to go into nursing.
