OHS has 29 Graduating with Distinction

Traxel Jirgens is this year's Valedictorian and Alex Comerford is Salutatorian. Congratulations to all our graduates. Here is a glimpse of their future plans and time at OHS. 

 

Addison Atwater is the son of Candice and Roy Atwater of Otsego. Addison plans to attend Kalamazoo Valley Community College to study biomedical engineering. He’ll also play for the KVCC Men’s basketball team. In high school, he participated in basketball (captain), baseball (captain), soccer (captain), National Honor Society, Leaders in Training, Pro Youth team and the O-Club. Addison was all-conference in soccer, basketball and baseball; all-state academic in soccer, basketball and baseball and all-district in soccer.


Kristen Brylowski is the daughter of Jennifer and James Brylowski, of Otsego. Kristen plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to study nursing. She’ll also be a part of the SVSU cross country and track teams. In high school, she participated in cross country (captain), track, basketball, National Honor Society, purple game committee, was a freshman mentor and Hoopster’s basketball coach. Kristen was Academic All-State, all-conference and all-region in cross country, conference honorable mention in basketball, 3-sport scholar athlete all four years and third-year academic honor award recipient.


Karen Chui is the daughter of Yan Jiang and Kam Chui, of Otsego. Karen is a student in the Early College Allegan County program and will attend her final year of community college with Lake Michigan College next year. She plans to become an orthodontist. In high school, she participated in Forensics, Yearbook, marketing and book club. She was a manager of the school store. Karen has been on the honor roll all four years.


Alex Comerford is the son of Laurie and Scott Comerford, of Kalamazoo. Alex plans to attend Syracuse University to study civil engineering. He will also be on the Syracuse cross country and track teams. In high school, he participated in cross country (captain), track (captain), National Honor Society and purple game committee. Alex is a two-time state champion in cross country and track.


Jayden Dentler is the son of Jamie and Jen Dentler, of Otsego. Jayden plans to attend the University of Michigan Dearborn to study environmental engineering. In high school, he participated in baseball, basketball, soccer, football, tennis and National Honor Society. He was all-conference in several sports and all-state in soccer.


William Eldred is the son of Matt and Lisa Eldred, of Kalamazoo. Will plans to attend North Central College to study business. He will also play for the NCC baseball team. In high school, he participated in basketball (captain), baseball (captain), football (captain) and National Honor Society.  Will was 2nd team all-state, 1st team all-conference (2x), all-district and all-region in baseball. In basketball, he was 2nd team all-conference, all-conference honorable mention; in football, he was 2nd team offense, 2nd team defense and all-conference honorable mention.


Owen Grile is the son of Matthew and Mary Grile, of Otsego. Owen has received the appointment to attend the United States Military Academy West Point to study history or strategic defense. In high school, he participated in soccer, football, swimming (captain), and track & field. He was academic all-state honorable mention in football, a state qualifier in swimming. He also was a part of student council, Leaders in Training, O-Club, purple game committee, National Honor Society (treasurer), Boys State, Summer Leaders Experience at West Point, youth group and praise team and robotics. He has been on the honor roll all four years and was a junior counselor for freshmen camp.


Ashley Hare is the daughter of John and Laurie Hare, of Otsego. Ashley plans to attend Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business to study finance. In high school, she was a part of Leaders in Training, National Honor Society (vice president), student council and the purple game committee. She has been on the honor roll all four years.


Payton Henckel is the daughter of Katie and Jeremy Henckel, of Otsego. Payton plans to attend Kalamazoo Valley Community College to be a physician’s assistant.


Cameron Hoogstraten is the daughter of Lurinda and Steven Hoogstraten, of Kalamazoo. Cameron plans to attend Michigan Technological University to study chemical engineering. In high school, she participated in swimming (captain), SADD, musical, and track & field. She was all-American in swimming.


Traxel Jirgens is the son of Scott and Shelly Jirgens, of Kalamazoo. Traxel plans to attend Michigan State University of study pre-law or education. In high school, he participated in swimming (captain), track & field and National Honor Society. He was all-conference and all-state all four years in swimming.


Robert Kalleward is the son of Bob and Tina Kalleward, of Otsego. Robby plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study environmental engineering. He will also be a part of the GVSU marching band. In high school, he participated in swimming, tennis, track & field, band (drum major), National Honor Society, Leaders in Training and was a freshman mentor. He was all-conference in swimming for three years, academic all-conference and academic all-state in swimming all four years. Kalleward is also an Eagle Scout.


Caitlin Kitchen is the daughter of Jeff and Donna Kitchen, of Otsego. Caitlin plans to attend Michigan State University to major in Pre Med. In high school, she participated in golf (captain, soccer, basketball, volleyball, National Honor Society, student council, Leaders in Training, purple game committee and O-Club. She was 1st team all-conference and all-district in soccer, MVP in golf, academic all-state in basketball, is a 4-year, 3-sport athlete and held a 4.0 throughout high school.


Alexis Koehl is the daughter of Sue Koehl, of Otsego. Alexis plans to attend Hope College to study biology. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society (secretary), swimming (captain), track & field, quiz bowl, art club and Federation of Christian Athletes. She was all-conference, all-league, a state qualifier, all-state academic and all-American academic in swimming. She is a 4-year scholar athlete and honor roll student. She won the writing club poem competition junior year.


Lilly Kloosterman is the daughter of Pam and Tom Kloosterman, of Plainwell. Lilly plans to attend Western Michigan University to become a pharmacist. In high school, she participated in softball, volleyball, basketball, track and O-Club. She’s been on the honor roll all four years.


Sydney Mancino is the daughter of Anthony Mancino and Stacey Bornamann, of Otsego. Sydney is a student in the Early College Allegan County program and will attend her final year of community college next year. She plans to study nursing.


Katelyn Meeuwsen is the daughter of Gregory and Khatrina Meeuwsen, of Otsego. Katelyn plans to attend Brigham Young University Hawaii and study molecular and cellular biology. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society, Leaders in Training, Yearbook and musicals.


Megan Nichols is the daughter of Teresa and Jason Nichols, of Kalamazoo. Megan plans to attend Michigan State University to major in landscape architecture. In high school, she participated in Destination Imagination (captain), marching band (section leader), pep band, ensembles, pit in the musical and National Honor Society. She was on the honor roll all four years.


Angie Nouna is the daughter of Colette Raweh and Riyad Nouna, of Otsego. Angie plans to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago to study nursing. In high school, she was on the honor roll all four years and participated in National Honor Society, track & field and yearbook.


Alexis Petty is the daughter of Jay and Nicole Petty, of Kalamazoo. Alexis plans to attend Kalamazoo College to study business and economics. She will also be a part of the K College soccer team. In high school, she participated in student council (secretary), National Honor Society, O-Club, Leaders in Training, marching band (section leader), volleyball, basketball and soccer (captain.) She was 1st team all-conference and all-team academic for soccer where she also received the Mikayla Cupp award. She was on two Wolverine Conference Championship soccer teams and was a 4-year honor roll student.


Mattison Rayman is the daughter of Stacie and Matt Rayman, of Otsego. Matti plans to attend Lake Superior State University to major in biology. In high school, she participated in basketball (4 years on varsity, 2x captain), soccer (captain), golf, volleyball, National Honor Society, Leaders in Training, O-club, was a Hoopster’s basketball coach and freshman mentor. She was a 4-year honor roll student and scholar-athlete, all-conference in basketball all four years, and BCAM all-state honorable mention; in soccer, she was all-conference, and was co-MVP in golf.


Natalie Rowe is the daughter of Jonathan and Robin Rowe, of Kalamazoo. Natalie plans to attend Hope College to study environmental and chemical engineering. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society, Leaders in Training, cheerleading, swim & dive (dive captain), track & field, musical and band. She received the Arian award for band, earned her JV and Varsity letters and was accepted to the all-American academic team.


Cole Sallee is the son of Clint and Sam Sallee, of Otsego. Cole plans to attend Eastern Michigan University to student criminology or biology. He will also be a part of the drum line in the EMU marching band. In high school, he participated in soccer, track, basketball, swimming, and National Honor Society. He received the scholar-athlete award, was all-conference and honorable mention, all-academic and all-district in sports.


Jaekob Sallee is the son of Jodi and Steve Sallee, of Kalamazoo. Jaekob plans to attend Hillsdale College and study exercise science. He will also play baseball for Hillsdale. In high school, he participated in student council (treasurer), National Honor Society, O-Club (president), baseball (captain), football (captain) and was his class treasurer. He’s a 4-year scholar athlete was all-conference (2x), all-district (2x) and all-region in baseball.


Taylor Schuesler is the daughter of Christopher Schuesler and Jen Crago, of Lawton. Taylor plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study nursing. In high school, she participated in soccer and National Honor Society. She’s a 4-year scholar athlete and honor roll student.


Morgan Thomas is the daughter of Chris and Amy Thomas, of Allegan. Morgan plans to attend Michigan Technological University to study biomedical engineering. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society, was a freshman mentor, served as a MS track & field assistant, teacher and assistant at Patti Herm School of Dance, participated in youth group and mission trips through St. Margaret’s.

 

Cammy Truong is the daughter of Don and Amy Truong, of Otsego. Cammy plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania to study biology and become a cardiothoracic surgeon. In high school, she worked at the WMU lab on heart disease research and University of Michigan blood clotting research. She was on the purple game committee, Leaders in Training, National Honor Society (president), class government (secretary, office, president), student council, prom committee, freshman mentor, and the O-Club. She participated in swim, competitive cheer, track, tennis and swim club. She is a Wolverine Conference Scholar Athlete, academic all-state and academic all-American in swim, academic all-state for cheer, an AP scholar with honor and a 4-year honor roll student.


Caity Weirick is the daughter of Cathy Weirick. Caity plans to attend Central Michigan University to major in biology with a focus in criminal biology. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Choir Board (president, vice president), musical and Leaders in Training. She was on the honor roll all four years.


Emily Woodin is the daughter of Dale and Lisa Woodin, of Kalamazoo. Emily plans to attend Western Michigan University to study elementary education. In high school, she participated in volleyball, soccer, band (section leader), National Honor Society, Jumpstart and SADD. She’s a 4-year honor roll student and scholar athlete, was academic all-conference honorable mention in soccer, received the Director’s award in band, first division ratings in band and was Rookie of the Year in soccer.
