The boys' team shows off its Regional Championship trophy after Saturday's victory.
The boys' track team clinches a Regional title as runners prepare for the State finals.

The boys' track team edged out Edwardsburg, by a half a point, to win the Regional Championship title for the first time since the 80's. The team wasn't even aware of their win until events were over; they were just looking at one race at a time.

"The kids were out in the middle of the field and didn't want to leave because they didn't want that feeling to end," says Head Coach Matt Grile, "it was a very cool moment."

The team has come close to winning regionals in the last few years with great individual runners; but Grile feels the entire team this year was what put them in good position to claim the title, "We're so deep and consistent this year; we're better as a team than we have been in the past," he says, "The program has been getting stronger over the last 7 or 8 years."

The win makes the team eligible to compete this Saturday in the Michigan Track Coaches Association meet for a Team State Title. That takes place at Jenison High School starting at 10:00am.

The individual Regional Champions who will be competing at state are Michael Kiel in the 400 as well as the long jump, Brian Harvey in the 3200; the 1600 relay team of Jack Pfieffer, Kyle Bolyard, TJ Nunley and Mitchell Kiel, and TJ Nunley also qualified in the 800.

Our girls' team will compete at State with its 2-mile relay team made up of Carly Drobny, Grace Nord, Paige Koshar and Maggie Rickstad.

State Finals for individual races are June 2nd at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
