One NHS member's love for animals is prompting a new fundraiser at the high school this coming week; it might be perfect timing for your weekend plans.

The National Honor Society at Otsego High School is involved in several annual projects such as collecting money to provide toys for children in the area at Christmas; but, advisor Lori Laughlin encourages them to think of the causes they are passionate about, too, "If there is a project they are interested in doing, then they can go for it if they get the support of the whole," Laughlin says.

That encouragement is behind a garage sale that will take place Saturday, May 19th from 8am-2pm in the front of the high school. Member Maija Cota got the support of her NHS group to organize this fundraiser. She volunteers at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan in Kalamazoo, "So she sees first hand the need," Laughlin says.

But to run a garage sale, they could use items to sell. The warmer weather might be getting us in the mood to do a little "Spring Cleaning." Don't throw anything away, donate it to the sale. You can drop off items at the high school on Thursday and Friday, May 17 & 18 from 3pm-6pm. If you don't have items to donate for the sale but would like to contribute, NHS will also accept donations for the shelter such as food, blankets, towels, treats, toys, bleach, etc.
