Granting Brooke's Wish

It’s a wish of almost every child – to go to Disney World. But for many kids' families, they have years to make that dream come true. That’s not the case for the family of Brooke, who suffers from a life-threatening illness.

CPR Trained

“Someone, call 9-1-1,” those were the words students have been practicing the last couple of weeks in health class as they knelt down beside a dummy to practice performing CPR.

Honoring MLK, Jr.

Some of the school walls will soon be filled with dreams; dreams of our students, based on the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Several classrooms talked about the civil rights leader who we honor on the third Monday of January; but here’s a closer look at two projects underway.

Geo Whiz

Kayla Merrill, a fifth grade student at Alamo Elementary, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 15 and a chance at $25,000 college scholarship.  The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 25th annual National Geographic Bee.

$2M Scholarship Fund

A new scholarship for Otsego graduates has the potential to change many lives.

Emil “Bud” Popke, who passed away in May and whose two sons graduated from Otsego in the 80’s, has gifted $2 million to the Allegan County Community Foundation to be used for scholarships specifically for Otsego graduates planning to attend college.

Animals in Winter

It all started with a book, "Stranger in the Woods." It's about how animals react to seeing a snowman who appears in their woods after a winter storm. That started a lesson on what animals do in the winter and led them to a winter project.

6-String Session

Students tune up their guitars, get their shoulder straps just right, grab a guitar pick and begin to strum. For the first few minutes of the second guitar club meeting, kids worked to get settled into their instruments. It’s an exciting time for these eight students who found a place to share their interest.
