It’s a wish of almost every child – to go to Disney World. But for many kids' families, they have years to make that dream come true. That’s not the case for the family of Brooke, who suffers from a life-threatening illness.

Some of the school walls will soon be filled with dreams; dreams of our students, based on the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Several classrooms talked about the civil rights leader who we honor on the third Monday of January; but here’s a closer look at two projects underway.

Kayla Merrill, a fifth grade student at Alamo Elementary, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 15 and a chance at $25,000 college scholarship.  The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 25^th annual National Geographic Bee.

It all started with a book, "Stranger in the Woods." It's about how animals react to seeing a snowman who appears in their woods after a winter storm. That started a lesson on what animals do in the winter and led them to a winter project.
