Dear Community Member,

I want to keep you informed of current legislation as of December 7, 2012 that is of immediate concern to the Otsego Public School District and its Board of Education members.

There is a series of bills rapidily moving through the Michigan Legislature that will affect public education now and for years to come.

The Allegan County School Boards Association gathered at a special meeting on December 6, 2012 to discuss each bill and its possible effect on each district as well as public education as a whole across the state. In an effort to keep our residents informed, we want to pass along to you the same documents handed out to the county's board members. They include a legislative summary as well as talking points from the ACSBA.

In addition, we want you to know that members of Otsego's Board of Education as well as school board members throughout Allegan County are writing letters to local legislators urging them to oppose these bills. We encourage you to read through the material and be informed. I also encourage you to contact our legislators by mail, email or phone regarding the decisions they are about to make. Below is a link to our legislators' contact information.

Thank you for your continued support of the Otsego Public School District.

Respectfully,

Dennis M. Patzer, Superintendent
