    The Senior Citizens Lifelong Learning group is for any area senior citizen looking to stay involved, active and who wants to meet new people and learn new things.

    The group meets for class the first Tuesday of each month at 1 the Otsego Public Schools Board Room at Central Office, 400 Sherwood St. There are a couple exceptions as the group does take field trips on occasion. Classes feature guest speakers, question and answer sessions and fun activities.

2016-17 Calendar

August 2 - Vincinia Gardens: A speaker will provide information on their newest facility in Otsego.

September 6 - Occupational Therapy: Good activities to know. Jennifer Roelof, OT, will instruct the class on ways to adapt activities for arthritis, decreased sensation and eyesight, and create a handcrafted card, therapeutic for the hand and mind and guaranteed to be fun!

October 4 - Stokes Homestead Farm Market. Field trip to the farm in Grand Junction for a 1-hour visit including a 30-minute wagon tour, picking fruit, browsing the market. Bus departs at 12:30pm, returning approximately 2:30pm. Cost is $10, checks payable to Otsego Public Schools. Park on the east side of the middle school (540 Washington Street) for bus pick-up.

November 1 - Ask the Tech Expert! Otsego's own Calvin Kortz will answer questions about your device/gadget; from phone to computer. Feel free to bring your phone, iPod, or iPad and Calvin will be happy to provide an overview of how it works and answer your questions; and if you're thinking of getting a computer, which ones will fulfill your basic needs.

December 6 - Decorating Christmas Cookies. Enjoy Christmas Music while Marleen VanLent guides you on decorating cookies that you can take home! Decorations and cookies provided. 

January 3 -  Fall Prevention and Wellness. A member from Allegan Medical Clinic will discuss Fall Prevention and what a Wellness Exam looks like. You can also get your blood pressure checked at this meeting. 

February 7 - Diabetes Education. Allegan General Hospital will talk about Diabetes; prevention and health. Blood sugar screenings will be offered at this visit.

March 7 - Kalamazoo Garden Council: Learn about spring planting and preparing your garden for summer color. Attendees will take home their own potted plant or bulb.

April 4 - Spinning Wheel Demonstration: Join us as Anne McKinney of Plainwell talks about her Angora goats and demonstrates the art of spinning.

May 2 - 

June 6 - Physiotherapy Association Presentation. Carrie will join our group to address strengthening exercises, balance and fall prevention. Also, assess your fall risk!

July 11 - Field Trip - Lunch at Crane's Pie Pantry in Fennville, Cruise on the Star of Saugatuck. Bus departs Otsego Middle School parking lot (east side of building), at 10:15 a.m. and returns approximately 3:30 p.m. $23 due to Otsego Public Schools by June 30 for cruise. Bring $$ for lunch. (Crane’s lunch items run $7-$9 plus drink).

August 1 - Edward Jones Presentation - Hear Tim Andrus of the Edward Jones Otsego office address financial planning and investing and fraud prevention.

September 12 - Field Trip– Tour “Homestead Woodworking” in Middlebury, IN, followed by Amish-style meal. Bus departs Otsego Middle School parking lot (east side of building), at 9:15 a.m. and returns approximately 1:45 p.m. $25 due to Otsego Public Schools at time of departure.

October 3 - Environmental Protection Agency Presentation. Paul Ruesch, On Scene Coordinator, will share the current project taking place along the Kalamazoo River.
